EASTER EGG HUNT
KENSINGTON MARKET, every street
SUNDAY APRIL 16 2006
ALL DAY LONG!

Reading the part about hand-written messages of joy reminds me of an unusual email/spam I received recently:

Subject: Gouranga
Call out Gouranga be happy
Gouranga Gouranga Gouranga
That which brings the highest happiness!

I wikied Gouranga and found out that a) Gouranga, or Gauranga, is said to originate in the Hare Krishna religious movement; b) in popular culture it is accepted generally as a word meaning simply ‘be happy’; c) the literal Sanskrit translation is ‘light/golden-limbed’.

According to legend, the email I received, received by so many others before me, is from someone who’s purposefully sending this lovely message of joy to people around the world. If you google Gouranga, you’ll find tons of articles and blog entries pertaining to this baby cultural meme. It’s interesting how these things start and evolve – Rockstar Games hid a Gouranga Easter egg in Grand Theft Auto and you can find Gouranga graffiti all over the world!
