Space. The final frontier. Space has been on my mind this week for a whole lotta reasons – take Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gargarin for example. Yesterday was the anniversary of his death, plus “Yuri’s Night” is coming up at the Ontario Science Centre on April 5th.
From yurisnight.ca: Yuri’s Night is an international celebration of the first human spaceflight, taken by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in April 1961. Over one hundred Yuri’s Night events are planned all over the world!
I can’t wait. I’m also thinking about inner space, specifically the inner space around my organs, which feels to be disappearing daily. Little kielbasa is rapidly expanding, making space the hottest commodity inside of me at the moment.
Then there’s the story that broke from the PSFK conference this week about NASA and Etsy teaming up to run a space-inspired crafting contest. Etsy founder Robert Kalin verbally gaffed when he suggested, “we’ll send the two winners into space.”
From news.com: “Etsy and NASA are partnering on a program that we’re calling Space Craft,” Kalin explained. Space Craft will be a contest in which Etsy members create products inspired by NASA’s logo; finalists’ work will wind up in the NASA gift shop, and two pieces of winning artwork will get to go into space.
So in honour of all that spacious-licious-ness, this week’s Etsy word is “space”.
